Is scalping allowed in PropXP?

Program Instant Funding One Phase Two Phase
Severity Important

TL;DR

Yes, scalping is allowed in PropXP, but human-speed scalping is allowed, not HFT scalping, tick scalping, or hyper scalping.
Also, there is an important difference by account type:
  • Challenges: no minimum holding time
  • Funded Accounts and Instant Funding: 2-minute minimum holding time
So yes, you can scalp. No, that does not mean machine-gunning ticks for a few seconds at a time.

How it works

PropXP allows normal discretionary scalping and other legitimate short-term trading styles.
What is not allowed is trading behavior that looks like execution abuse, including things such as:
  • HFT-style scalping
  • tick scalping
  • hyper scalping
  • ultra-short, systematic in-and-out behavior designed to exploit execution rather than trade actual market movement
In plain English: if you are trading like a person, fine. If you are trading like a caffeinated bot, not fine.

Minimum holding time by account type

Account type
Minimum holding time
One-Phase Challenge
None
Two-Phase Challenge
None
Funded Account
2 minutes
Instant Funding
2 minutes
That means:
  • During a Challenge, there is no minimum holding time, so short-duration trades are allowed.
  • On Funded Accounts and Instant Funding, you must hold trades for at least 2 minutes before manually closing or reducing them, subject to the usual rule interpretation and behavior review.

Practical guidance for scalpers

A useful way to think about this on Funded Accounts and Instant Funding is the classic Al Brooks idea that a scalp is a trade exited within about 5 bars of entry.
That kind of trading is generally still perfectly normal.
Examples:
  • On a 1-minute chart, entering and exiting 2 bars later is fine.
  • On a 5-minute chart, exiting halfway through the candle after entry is also fine, because by then you are already beyond the 2-minute minimum holding time.
  • On a Challenge, those same trades are also fine, and there is no holding-time floor.
The real issue is not “short trade = bad.”
The issue is systematic ultra-fast trading behavior that crosses into tick-scalping / HFT-style execution abuse.

Common gotchas

  • Scalping is allowed; tick scalping is not.
  • During Challenges, there is no minimum holding time.
  • On Funded Accounts and Instant Funding, repeatedly closing trades in under 2 minutes can be treated as a minimum-holding-time issue and/or tick-scalping behavior.
  • A few isolated fast exits are not the same thing as a repeated pattern.
  • “But I’m a scalper” is not a magic exemption from the rule. Scalping is a style; abusive execution behavior is something else.

Example

You trade EURUSD on the 1-minute chart.
  • You enter long and close the trade 2 candles later: that is normal scalping.
  • You enter on a 5-minute chart and exit 2.5 minutes later, before the candle closes: also fine on a Funded or Instant Funding account.
  • You repeatedly open and close positions in seconds, over and over, for tiny price changes: that starts to look like tick scalping / HFT-style behavior, which is not allowed.
